We keep improving our software so that more and more features can be added into the component when the new version is released. Version 4 rewrites all codes and combines the Access Control component and Membership Control component together. Also, it brings in the Joomla Membership Management and Control framework, where we can manage and develop third parties addon easily and quickly, which gives you more functionalities on your Joomla website.
However, in order to achieve all these, we have to restructure our database, but we do not want to remove all your settings and data. Therefore we provide a database migration function in version 4. The following shows how to upgrade your Access Control or Membership Control component to version 4.
- Install version 4 of the Access Control / Membership Control through the normal Joomla install/uninstall process.
- You will see that there is one more Menu link called Open Source MSC in your Component menu list.
- Then go to Components --> Open Source MSC --> you will see a link called "Data Migration" on the sub-menu bar.
- Select the migration option, and click the "Go!" button on the top right corner of the page.
- After this, you have finished the first step: migrating data from version 3.X to version 4.X.
- Next, please go to your Menu Manager and change all Open Source ACL / Open Source MSC layout to EITHER Joomla article layout OR Open Source MSC layout with the links starting with with index.php?option=com_oscmsc.
- Now, please uninstall all plugins, modules by going to Joomla Backend --> Extensions --> Install / Uninstall. Find all plugins and modules that are for Open Source ACL / Open Source MSC version 3.X.
- Also, please go to Joomla Backend --> Components --> Updater --> Select the update packs and click the delete button to remove them all.
- After that, please install the new plugins, modules and patch packs according to this instruction.
- That's it!
