Question: I would like to show different modules to different users. Is this possible? How would I do this?

Step 1. Install the Module Patch Pack

1. Go to JoomlaBackend --> Extensions -->Install/Uninstall--> Install the Updater component in the folder "Patch Pack\Updater\com_updater_ddmmyy.zip"
2. After installing the Updater component, please go to JoomlaBackend--> Components --> Updater --> Browse the file "\Patch Pack\Patch Pack\module_control.zip". After installing this patch pack, please tick the pack and click the upgrade button to upgrade the system. That's it. Non-group users will see a 404 component not found error when they browse these group menus.

Step 2. Select Modules for the Membership

1. Create a new membership / click the membership title to edit existing membership

2. Click the module that you would like to control and click the apply button. Once the module is under controlled, only users in this group can view the modules in the frontend.

If you would like to hide articles or categories in any of the following way:
  1. You would like to hide the whole article and titles in the Section Blog / List Layout or Category Blog / List Layout
  2. Or you would like to hide some Sections / Categories in the select box when you create / edit articles
  3. Or you would like to hide the Edit icons when you login in as users with user type that is above Authors.

Then please follow these steps to setup the patch and configure menu items:

  1. Go to Joomla Backend --> Menus --> New
  2. In your left hand side, choosse Open Source MSC
  3. You will see the following screen:

Question 1: When a user logins as Editors or above, he can see all "Edit" Icon on all pages where he/she does not have the permission to edit the articles. How can we hide these icons?
Question 2: when a user has the permission to edit the article, he can see all sections / categories that he does not have permission to edit. How can we hide these categories?

In order to achieve this, please follow these steps to setup the patch the Joomla system.

  1. Go to Joomla Backend --> Install the Updater component in the folder "Patch Pack\Updater"
  2. After installing the Updater component, please go to Components --> Updater --> Browse the file "\Patch Pack\Patch Pack\icon.zip". After installing this patch pack, please tick the pack and click the upgrade button to upgrade the system.
  3. Next, please go to Components --> Updater --> Browse the file "\Patch Pack\Patch Pack\form.zip". After installing this patch pack, please tick the pack and click the upgrade button to upgrade the system.

How can I achieve this: "Upon logging in, users are automatically taken to their private page, which only they can view"?

Step 1. Install the Login Redirection Plugin

  1. Installing the user plugin, which includes the user redirection function, email templates and IP control function: go to your Joomla Backend --> Extensions --> Install / Uninstall --> Browse --> Select the file "Access Control Core Plugins\plugin_oseuser_ddmmyy.zip" (dd/mm/yy represents date/month/year respectively)..

Step 2. Setup the login landing page for the user group

  1. Enabling the plugin by going to Joomla Backend --> Extensions--> Plugin Manager --> User - Open Source Excellence, enable it.

  3. Then please click the pluign " User - Open Source Excellence" and edit the parameters. Please turn on the Login rediretion function in the parameter setting.

  5. After enabling the plugin, go to Components --> Open Source MSC --> Pick one membership and choose the home page for the membership.

  7. Save it. Please repeat this for other membership. Your users will be redirected to the corresponding page after they login.

Step 1. Installing the Menu Module and Menu Control plugin

  1. Installing the menu module: go to your Joomla Backend --> Extensions --> Install / Uninstall --> Browse --> Select the file "Menu Module\mod_osemscmainmenu_ddmmyy.zip" (dd/mm/yy represents date/month/year respectively).
  2. Beta Testing Stage: Installing the menu control plugin: go to your Joomla Backend --> Extensions --> Install / Uninstall --> Browse --> Select the file "Access Control Core Plugins\plugin_osemscmenu_ddmmyy.zip" (dd/mm/yy represents date/month/year respectively). Please remember to enable the plugin.

Step 2. Choose the Menus for the user

  1. In the Menu section, select he menu items for the group users. Please note that once the menu item is selected, this menu item will be under controlled by OSE Membership Control (MSC) and only group members can see the menu items.

Step 3. Configure the Menu Module

  1. Go to Joomla Backend --> Module Manager --> OSEMSCMenu,

  3. In the Module Parameters, change the module name, then turn on the menu module, and select the menu name.

  5. That's it. Save the module and go to frontend to see how it looks.

Stricly Restricting Menu Items

For users who would like to NOT ONLY hiding menus BUT ALSO strictly restrict menu items so that non-group users cannot access the menu items, please do one more step:

1. Install the Updater component in the folder "Patch Pack\Updater"

2. After installing the Updater component, please go to Components --> Updater --> Browse the file "\Patch Pack\Patch Pack\menu_sef.zip". After installing this patch pack, please tick the pack and click the upgrade button to upgrade the system. That's it. Non-group users will see a 404 component not found error when they browse these group menus.
